Dear Parents

How did it get so late so soon?

Dr. Seuss

I was caught a bit short when the Grade 7 children mentioned yesterday that they had played their last hockey fixture for Applewood.  Where does the time go?

With a month left of school this term, we have a couple of sports fixtures left before our Winter Sports Day on 17 September.  The day promises to be a full and exciting one with an Inter-House “Boeresport” competition being introduced alongside the traditional Inter-House sports.  We are also going to hold a potjiekos competition (open to all-comers) which Mrs Boome elaborates on below.

Look out for more information on our upcoming events in newsletters and on the website.

Music Director

As you all know we have been interviewing potential candidates for the position of Music Director. With the blessing of Council we have decided to make a full-time appointment of a person able to reinvigorate the music programme at Applewood,  rather than continue with the part-time position music has occupied in the recent past.

We are down to two final candidates, both of whom are highly qualified and well-experienced in both class and individual music teaching.  We look forward to making an announcement on our new Music Director in the near future.

Wise Words?

The following correspondence was sent out from a Singaporean Head prior to exams starting at his school:

Dear Parents,

The exams of your children are to start soon. I know you are all really anxious for your child to do well.

But, please do remember, amongst the students, who will be sitting for the exams, there is an artist, who doesn't need to understand Maths.

There is an entrepreneur, who doesn't care about History or English literature.

There's a musician, whose Chemistry marks won't matter.

There's a sportsperson, whose physical fitness is more important than Physics.

If your child does get top marks, that's great! But, if he or she doesn't, please don't take away their self-confidence and dignity from them.

Tell them it's OK, it's just an exam! They are cut out for much bigger things in life.

Tell them, no matter what they score, you love them and will not judge them.

Please do this, and when you do, watch your children conquer the world. One exam or a low mark won't take away their dreams and talent.

And please, do not think that doctors and engineers are the only happy people in the world.

It’s been a grand start to the season for United (my United that is) and let’s hope the ‘Bokke can do the job in Salta up in the mountains of Argentina!

How did it get so late so soon?

Dr. Seuss

As u kind toppunte behaal, is dit fantasties!
