Dear Parents

Be the reason someone smiles today.

                                                                                                                                    Unknown

Whether we are a teacher, parent, relative, boss or community member, each of us has a chance to make a positive and impactful difference in a child’s life.  But in order to do this, we must carefully consider this question:

What matters most to our children?

For many years now, I have been posing this question to children of all ages.  Strangely enough, regardless of demographics or background, the children were saying the same things and had the same message:  It’s the small things you do that mean the most.  That is what they remembered and that is what mattered.  It all came to the following:

  1. Greet me each day
  2. Smile
  3. Give me your attention
  4. Imagine with me
  5. Challenge me
  6. Ask about me
  7. Give me time
  8. Expect only the best of me
  9. Notice me
  10. Let me ask questions
  11. Engage me
  12. Trust me

THANK YOU teachers of Applewood.  Thank you for making a difference in this world.  Thank you for moulding young minds.  Thank you for overcoming daily struggles and still dedicating yourselves to achieving as much as possible for your learners.  Thank you for your patience.  Thank you for your kindness.  Thank you for the guidance you give each and every child.  Thank you for giving the children the confidence and courage to follow their dreams.

Head of Music Department

I am delighted to announce that Miss Johani Louw has been appointed as the new Head of Music Department at Applewood.

She is an experienced teacher who specialises in teaching piano, singing, organ, harpsichord, recorder, theory and choir.  She brings a high level of music expertise to Applewood.  She has taught class music in London, Dubai and Cape Town.  She is an accomplished soloist as a classically trained operatic soprano in English, Afrikaans, German, Italian and French.  A truly talented young lady.

We look forward to welcoming Johani to Applewood and the Elgin Valley in January 2017.

Parent interviews will be taking place on 19-22 September.  Please ensure you book a meeting with your class teacher.  Forms, to book a slot, will go up on the notice board across the computer room, this coming week.

  1. Groet my elke dag
  2. Glimlag
  3. Gee my aandag
  4. Droom saam met my
  5. Daag my uit
  6. Vra my oor my dag
  7. Gee my tyd
  8. Verwag net die beste van my
  9. Sien my raak
  10. Laat my toe om vrae te vra
  11. Betrek my by dinge
  12. Vertrou my
