 Dear Parents

“It’s all about finding the calm in the chaos”

Donna Karan

Nothing could be truer as we hurtle towards the end of the year!

Mrs Dunton did find a moment of calm for the school this morning as she asked us to celebrate Thanksgiving together.  Mrs Dunton had us all join hands at line up this morning and think of one thing that each of us is thankful for.  A moment of quite reflection and gratitude is a wonderful way to start the day – thank you, Dee!

Last Week of Term

Next week is the last week of term – and it’s a busy one!  In addition to the Grade 6 trip, the Grade 7 Creative Writing exam, our Grade R Graduation, the Junior Phase Awards Evening, the Grade 7 Farewell, the Christmas Market and the Senior Phase Awards, we have Inter-House cricket and softball on Wednesday (JP 08:00 – 10:00 and SP 10:30 – 12:30) as well as the Pre-Primary picnic.  On Thursday we have Inter-House spelling (08:00) and general knowledge (09:00).

Platinum Eco Status

I am delighted to report that our Eco-Schools Submission to Wessa resulted in the first Platinum Award to Applewood.  I shared a link to our submission in an earlier newsletter and we received the news on Tuesday that our efforts have been rewarded.  This award is the first in a three-step process to Applewood gaining Platinum Flag Eco-status.

Carbon Footprint

Mrs Tuttelberg, who drives our Eco-programme has also had a consultant visit Applewood to determine what our carbon footprint is and what we can do to ensure our footprint is carbon-neutral.  The children will be involved in collecting and analysing data through the course of next week (because we don’t have enough to do) and the first term of next year.

Parents will be included in the survey which we will run online.

My thanks and congratulations to Mrs Tuttelberg, the staff and children for their ongoing efforts in protecting and caring for the environment.

Have a lekker weekend, and, dare I say it… Go Bokke!

Mr B

Mev.

Go Bokke!

 Mnr. B

All items to be in by latest Wednesday, 30 November 2016 by 08:00

We would like to make an appeal to our parent and learner bodies as we near the end of the school year and approach the festive season with the anticipation of the joy of giving and gratitude of receiving to consider our support staff.

Bongile, Phemla, Marshley, Helena, Joline, Zanekhaya and Fikile serve as our caretakers, cleaners and gardeners. They are always willing to assist with the preparations of functions as well.

We would like to give each a Christmas hamper and ask if you would kindly give an item of non-perishable food like sugar, tea, coffee, tinned food, starches, etc. Please give to the class teacher.

If each family donated only two items, we could make a really generously filled hamper for each of them!

Thank you for your support & Thank you to those that have donated!
