Wines2whales - Cycling Top

The start to the fourth term has been extremely productive. In the first two weeks we have:

• Had a very informative swimming pool meeting.

• Run a very successful first time night relay.

• Played two cricket matches.

• Attended mini cricket at Reddam.

• The Grade 6 class have been on F.E.T. tour.

Last week’s swimming pool meeting held in the school hall was very exciting. We looked at the scope of the project and shared a number of very constructive ideas. The project is now in a very advanced stage. Final costings have been done and the design is all but complete. You will have noticed a few charts and diagrams that have gone up in various parts of the school. At this stage, in order to get the project started and to complete the first phase we require R5 500 000. Through very generous donations and some fund raising we have an amount of R4 000 000 available - we are three quarters of the way there!

One of the charts is a system of selling squares – the blue squares represent the squares which have already been sold (amounting to R4 000 000 at present). The number on each square represents its monetary value, ranging from R200 to the most expensive R24 800. You are invited to buy any square you wish and in so doing make a contribution to the funding of the pool. A fund raising thermometer will be designed and made by the Grade 7 class. This will be updated regularly to show the progress. A hard copy of the pool presentation is available for viewing at the front office. I encourage you, if you were not able to attend the meeting, to spend a few minutes looking at the document to get an appreciation of the project.  We have an amazing opportunity to build and run a centre of excellence, right here at Applewood. In addition we will be able to make a very positive contribution to our community – what a privilege.

This weekend we are participating in the Harry Moore Gala at Ruens College and our U7 and U8 cricketers are playing at Bridge House.

A few important reminders:

• Children may not bring their cell phones to school.

• Children are not required to wear their school shoes while they are at school but must have their shoes on when they are out of school and in their school uniform.

• School fees are paid over 11 months and in advance. This means that school fees for the year are due in full by 2 November 2017.

I have the privilege of taking part in the Wines2whales mountain bike ride next week. I will be riding with Daz Muir and our intention is to raise money to go toward the building of the swimming pool. Look out for us on the route and at the race village in our Applewood Kit.

Have a super weekend and enjoy the open gardens.

Night Relay

A big thank you to the Grade 7 class who organised and ran Applewood's first Night Relay. It really was a fun evening and we look forward to it becoming an annual event.

• ‘n Baie insiggewende swembadvergadering gehad.

• ‘n Baie suksesvolle en eerste-van-sy-soort nag aflos gehou.

• Twee krieketwedstryde gespeel.

• Mini-krieket by Reddam bygewoon.
