Dear Applewood Parents

It has come to the end of an incredible second term. Firstly let me wish all of our dads a Happy Father's Day! I hope you have been suitably spoiled.

As you can see, from the articles and pictures below, the last four weeks have been exceptionally productive, notwithstanding the tragedy we have all experienced. It is at times like these that real character shines through. The Applewood community has certainly shown their character.

I would like to wish everyone a wonderful holiday. If you are getting away, travel safely. Make the most of this time with your children. Treasure each amazing moment.

GRADE 1 OUTING - TWO OCEANS  AQUARIUM

GRADE 2 OUTING - TABLE MOUNTAIN

GRADE 3 OUTING - OAK VALLEY - FLOWERS

Grade 3 visited Oak Valley Flowers learning about the journey from propagation to distribution.  It was a wonderful and interesting outing.  Thank you to Lizelle Hickson for making this trip a possibility.

JUNIOR PRIMARY CULTURAL EVENING

The Junior Primary Cultural evening was a great occasion. Our children performed incredibly confidently both individually and in their group items. The music department continues to pull out the stops. It was also an opportunity to showcase our visual arts. Mrs Tina Beaumont has inspired our children to produce a very high standard of art work. Well done to all involved.

GRADE 4 CAMP

The Grade 4 camp changed completely from the original plan and we ended up right on our doorstep at Mofam. The children completed a brand new obstacle course, went on 2 hikes, paddled on the river and camped on the lawn. They learned about team work, determination and had lots of fun in the process.

GRADE 6 OUTING TO SIMONSTOWN AREA

On Tuesday the Grade 6 class set off for Simonstown. First stop was sea kayaking off Boulder’s
Beach penguin colony. The weather was perfect and we saw the amazing kelp forests with lots of African Black Footed Penguins swimming next to our kayaks. We also swam with the seals near one of the islands in the bay. We stayed over at Water’s Edge Pre-Primary School in their accommodation. We had our own private beach.  On Wednesday we went to Cape Point. We visited Vasco da Gama and Bartholomew Dias’ padraos. We have been learning about these two explorers in Social Science.  We then went down to Dias’ beach and finally walked to the most South Western  point of Africa.

MULTISPORT EVENT 2

The second Multisport for the year moved to Wednesday this week because of the rains expected on Friday. Every child from Apple Blossoms to Grade 7 took part enthusiastically in what was a colourful and most enjoyable duathlon. The improved performances of all our children and growth in confidence was very evident and bodes well for the future of both trail running and mountain biking at Applewood.

Congratulations to Albert Steyn, Fae Walker, Daniël Meyer and Arden du Plessis for taking part in their first ever Spur MTB league event
