Grade 5 ‘WOW’ outdoor education trip

Primary School Outdoor Education -WOW Trip

The Grade 5’s went on an exciting new trip outdoor educational trip during October 2014, which we called the WOW trip.  After stopping to watch the whales in Hermanus they drove on to De Kelders to start the 5-cave hike.  Cave 1 was one of the many highlights of the trip. It is a drip cave with many spectacular formations still forming.  They had to use torches to see the formations and bats.

Swimming in the fresh water pool inside the cave was an experience they will never forget.

They walked along the cliff path and saw numerous mom and baby whales as well as dolphins and seals. Cave 3 was another highlight with a sink hole roof and only accessible at low tide.

They also saw a tortoise graveyard where the Rock Kestrel drop their prey on the rocks. They then headed off to De Uijlenes, their overnight stop on a farm.

Tuesday’s visit to Grootbos was a great privilege as they do not usually take school groups. They were treated to a very informative fynbos hike that included a section of Milkwood forest.

This was a truely WOW trip and the teachers would like to thank the Grade 5’s for their enthusiasm and everyone who made this experience possible!
